EARTH DAY 2017 • SATURDAY, APRIL 22









                                               A day to care for our Earth





                                 This Earth Day join The Kohala Center for a day of giving

                                 back to our island planet. Choose from six different volunteer
                                 projects in Kohala, Waimea, Honoka‘a, Pelekane, Kealakehe,

                                 or Kahalu‘u. Bring your ‘ohana, friends, and neighbors!




        Tree Planting in the Pelekane Watershed


        8 a.m. to Noon  Meet at The Kohala Center, 65-1291A Kawaihae Rd in Waimea
        Plant native trees and remove invasive vegetation in the Pelekane Bay
        Watershed to control erosion and sediment runoff.

        Farm work in Honoka‘a


        10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  TKC Demonstration Farm, 45-434 Lehua St in Honoka‘a
        Learn about agroforestry, intercropping, and more while nurturing the land
        with students in our farmer training programs. Potluck lunch.

        Beach Cleanup at Kahalu‘u Bay


        8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Kahalu‘u Beach Park, 78-6710 Ali‘i Dr in Kailua-Kona
        Clean up microlitter on the beach to keep it from entering the bay and
        harming marine life, and do some light weeding in the park. Coffee provided.
        Garden Beautification Projects



        Kohala: 10 a.m. to Noon  Kohala Elementary School, 54-3611 Akoni Pule Hwy
        Pull weeds, prune trees, and clean garden beds and compost piles.

        Waimea: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Waimea Elementary School, 67-1225 Hawai‘i Belt Rd
        Paint a mural, build garden beds, spread wood chips, and clean up the campus.

        Kealakehe: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Lili‘uokalani Rec Center, 74-5161 Pu‘uhalo St
        Pick up litter, build garden beds, and construct rock walls. Lunch provided.
